For Vinod Vaishnav, a resident of Musrakhurd village in Dongargarh development block, the monthly electricity bill was once an additional burden amid household expenses. Today, the installation of a 3-kilowatt solar panel under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana has brought financial relief to his family, with his electricity bill now reduced to zero.

Solar Power Brings Monthly Savings

Vaishnav, who earns his livelihood through agricultural labour, said that before installing the solar panel, his household electricity bill generally ranged between ₹400 and ₹500 per month. Although the amount may appear modest, setting aside money every month for electricity expenses added to the family’s financial burden.

After learning about the benefits of solar energy and the financial assistance available under the government scheme, Vaishnav decided to install a solar panel on the roof of his house.

He said that after the solar panel was installed, his household’s electricity bill has become zero. The ₹400–₹500 that was earlier spent on electricity is now available for meeting other household requirements, providing greater flexibility to the family’s domestic budget.

Surya Sabha Became the Starting Point

Vaishnav said that a Surya Sabha organised in his Gram Panchayat became the starting point for this change. Through the programme, he received information about the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, including the subsidy available under the scheme and the financial facilities associated with installing solar panels.

The information helped remove his initial hesitation about adopting solar energy. He subsequently converted the rooftop of his house into a new source of energy by installing the solar system.

₹1.08 Lakh Subsidy Received

According to Vaishnav, government financial assistance played an important role in making the installation possible. He received a subsidy of ₹78,000 from the Central Government and ₹30,000 from the State Government, taking the total subsidy benefit to ₹1.08 lakh.

He also said that the availability of financial support from the bank through easy instalments made the process of installing the solar panel more convenient for him.

Today, the solar panels installed on Vaishnav’s rooftop have brought a new beginning for his family in terms of savings and clean energy. He said that information about the scheme reaching the village and the financial assistance provided by the government made it possible for his family to adopt solar power.

Vaishnav expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai for the benefits received under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana.
