Chhattisgarh Approves Implementation of Four New Labour Laws

The Chhattisgarh state government has taken what has been described as a historic decision in the interest of workers across the state by approving the issuance of four new labour laws. The move is expected to provide millions of workers with social security and guarantees related to their fundamental rights.

Welcoming the decision, Yogesh Dutt Mishra, Chairman of the Chhattisgarh State Labour Welfare Board and a Minister of State-rank, expressed his gratitude to the state government.

Mishra Congratulates Chief Minister and Labour Minister

Yogesh Dutt Mishra extended his congratulations and thanks to Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai and Labour Minister Lakhhanlal Dewangan on the occasion.

He said the state government’s commitment to protecting the social security schemes and fundamental rights of around 90 lakh workers in the unorganised sector is a highly commendable and historic step.

Four New Labour Laws to Replace Existing Laws

Mishra said the four new labour laws will replace all the existing labour laws previously applicable in the state.

According to him, implementation of the new laws will provide the working class with several new facilities and rights that have been awaited for years.

Key Benefits Under the New Labour Laws

  • Gratuity after one year: Workers will become eligible for gratuity after completing just one year of service.
  • Rights similar to permanent employees for contractual workers: All irregular contractual workers will be provided rights similar to those available to permanent employees.
  • Mandatory appointment letters: Employers will be required to provide appointment letters to all workers in the state.
  • Increase in PF and pension funds: The amount deposited towards workers’ Provident Fund (PF) and pension funds will be increased.
  • Double overtime and women’s empowerment: Workers will receive overtime payment at twice the rate, along with provisions for regular health check-ups and special measures for the empowerment of women workers.
  • Recognition for gig workers: Workers engaged through gig platforms, including those associated with delivery and cab services, will receive official recognition and access to social benefits.
  • Minimum wage guarantee: No worker will be paid remuneration below the national minimum wage.

‘Dream of Millions of Workers Set to Become a Reality’

Yogesh Dutt Mishra said the decision would prove to be a major and concrete step towards the empowerment of workers.

He said the state government’s decision is set to fulfil a long-standing aspiration of millions of workers across both the organised and unorganised sectors.

Mishra expressed confidence that effective implementation of the laws would strengthen the working class economically and socially and contribute to an improvement in their standard of living.
