Census 2026–27 Preparations Begin; Municipal Staff Trained in Rajnandgaon

House Listing and Building Numbering Exercise to Be Conducted from May 1 to May 30, 2026

Preparations for India’s Census 2026–27 have commenced in Rajnandgaon, with a training session organized at the Town Hall of the Municipal Corporation. The session focused on the implementation of the house listing and building numbering process, which forms the foundation of the nationwide census exercise.

As per government directives, the house listing work is proposed to be conducted between April and September 2026 for a period of 30 days. In Chhattisgarh, the exercise has been scheduled from May 1 to May 30, 2026.

The training was conducted in the presence of Municipal Commissioner Atul Vishwakarma, where officials and employees were briefed on the systematic numbering of buildings across all wards. District Master Trainer Deepak Thakur provided detailed guidance on executing the building numbering process.

Officials were informed that the census process will begin with house listing and numbering of all structures in each ward in sequential order. Based on this data, census blocks will be determined. The work will be carried out under the supervision of ward in-charge sub-engineers in accordance with government guidelines.

Addressing the participants, Commissioner Vishwakarma emphasized that the Census is a crucial national exercise and must be conducted with utmost seriousness and without any negligence. He directed officials and staff to ensure that no house or building is left unnumbered and that all assigned responsibilities are completed within the stipulated timeline.

Senior officials, including Executive Engineer Pranay Meshram, Revenue Officer Rajesh Tiwari, Assistant Engineers Garima Verma and Sushma Sahu, and Health Officer Rajesh Mishra, along with other engineers and municipal staff, were present during the training session.
