A total of 41 girl students of Government Higher Secondary School, Karmari, under Chhuria block, received bicycles on Thursday as part of the Saraswati Cycle Scheme, an initiative of the Chhattisgarh government aimed at promoting education and ensuring better accessibility for students.

The distribution program was held in the presence of village representatives and school authorities. Chief guest and Sarpanch of Karmari Gram Panchayat, Din Dayal Sahu, along with School Development Committee President Laxman Sahu, the principal, and teachers, handed over the bicycles to the students.

Extending his greetings to the students, Sarpanch Din Dayal Sahu said that the scheme reflects the state government’s commitment to education and social upliftment. “The purpose of the scheme is to make education accessible, help students—especially girls—commute to schools without difficulty, and promote self-reliance. It not only boosts enrollment but also plays a vital role in driving social change,” he remarked.

Under the Saraswati Cycle Scheme, bicycles are distributed free of cost to girl students in Class IX, helping them overcome the challenge of long-distance travel to schools in rural areas. The initiative has already resulted in a notable increase in school attendance and has been widely welcomed by parents and communities across Chhattisgarh.

Teachers present at the event highlighted the transformative impact of the scheme, noting that it has reduced dropout rates among girls and given them the confidence to pursue higher education. The newly distributed bicycles are expected to benefit students of Karmari by ensuring timely attendance, reducing travel fatigue, and fostering a positive environment for learning.

The program concluded with expressions of gratitude from students, who pledged to make the most of the opportunity provided by the government scheme.
