Special Vehicle Flagged Off as Part of Cataract-Free India Campaign Targeting 100 Beneficiaries in the District

Under the Atal Vayo Abhyuday Yojana and the Cataract-Free India campaign, 25 identified senior citizens from Rajnandgaon district have been sent to All India Institute of Medical Sciences Raipur for free cataract surgeries. A special vehicle carrying the beneficiaries and their attendants was flagged off from the Joint District Office premises on Monday.
The flag-off ceremony was attended by District Panchayat President Kiran Vaishnav, Vice President Kiran Sahu, District Panchayat members Jagriti Yadu, Sheela Sinha, and Kiran Barle, along with Chief Executive Officer of District Panchayat Suruchi Singh.
Deputy Director, Social Welfare, Vaishali Maradwar informed that eye examinations of senior citizens aged 60 years and above were conducted across all Primary Health Centres in the district by trained ophthalmic assistants. The primary objective of the Atal Vayo Abhyuday Scheme is to make Chhattisgarh and the country cataract-free by ensuring timely identification and treatment of affected elderly citizens.

Officials said the district has been assigned a target of conducting cataract surgeries for 100 elderly beneficiaries. In the first phase, 25 selected patients were transported to AIIMS Raipur, where an expert medical team will conduct detailed examinations followed by free surgeries.
A nodal team led by Sukhma Chandravanshi, along with support staff including Santosh Sahu, Kanchankala Meshram, Aradhana Thawait, and Sameer Kshatri, accompanied the beneficiaries to ensure smooth coordination and assistance during the treatment process.
Authorities emphasized that the initiative reflects the government’s commitment to senior citizen welfare by providing accessible and quality healthcare services without financial burden. Further phases of the programme will continue until the district achieves its target under the campaign.
