A workshop was organized at the Town Hall of the Rajnandgaon Municipal Corporation to spread awareness about the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Free Electricity Scheme. The session aimed to inform corporation officials and employees about the scheme’s process, benefits, and implementation.

The workshop was attended by Municipal Commissioner Atul Vishwakarma, senior councilor Shiv Verma, and councilors Kamlesh Bandhe, Sandeep Baghel, Satish Sahu, and Chandrakrit Sahu.

Commissioner Atul Vishwakarma highlighted that the PM Surya Ghar Scheme is one of the government’s most ambitious initiatives designed to make households energy self-reliant. Under the scheme, citizens can produce electricity on their rooftops, significantly reducing or even eliminating their electricity bills while contributing to energy conservation.

He informed that the government provides a subsidy ranging from ₹30,000 to ₹78,000 per plant, depending on capacity, along with bank loan facilities for easy financing. He urged officials and employees to install solar panels in their own homes and motivate others to do the same.

“Each official and employee should apply for the installation of rooftop solar panels. Awareness among citizens can ensure more people benefit from this progressive scheme,” the Commissioner emphasized.

Councilor Shiv Verma encouraged all employees to avail themselves of the scheme and reduce their electricity expenses. He explained that any excess electricity produced beyond household consumption is supplied to the grid, earning consumers additional income through net metering.

He also suggested that the Electricity Department and associated agencies should hold awareness camps in every ward to ensure that more citizens learn about the scheme and apply for it.

Councilor Chandrakrit Sahu shared his experience, stating that even though his ward is among the city’s farthest areas, many residents have already applied for the scheme after learning about its benefits. He stressed the need for ward-level publicity so that the benefits reach every household.

The workshop concluded with a pledge by municipal officers to actively support the scheme’s promotion and ensure maximum participation from all wards.

Executive Engineer Deepak Khande, along with several other officials and staff members, were present during the session.
