Chhattisgarh Pradesh Congress Committee General Secretary Shahid Bhai, taunting the BJP for calling GST reforms a “Savings Festival,” said that for 8 years, the government collected ₹55 lakh crore from farmers, the poor, and middle-class families. Even in the holy month of Sawan, GST was imposed on milk and curd, extracting crores from religious practices. Due to this “Gabbar Singh Tax,” the Modi government inflicted severe blows on the working class.
Our leader Rahul Gandhi and the Congress Party consistently raised their voice against the irregular GST slabs from the beginning, attempting to wake up the government. But driven by greed, the government ignored public interest and kept on extracting money. Now, to distract people from the issues of democracy being strangled and vote theft, the BJP is staging a drama of GST amendments and portraying it as a festival.
Shahid Bhai further said that because of the “Gabbar Singh Tax,” in the past 8 years, farmers had to pay nearly ₹4,000 crore extra on agricultural equipment, pesticides, tractors, and other resources. Every month, around ₹9,000 crore was collected from poor and middle-class families, wiping out their savings. Many industries and businesses are now on the verge of shutting down, and the BJP government is solely responsible.

The BJP government still claims that there are only two slabs in GST to mislead the public, but the truth is that even today, there are 6 types of slabs. GST on copies, books, pencils, stationery, and cloth raw materials has been increased from 12% to 18%, which is grossly unjust. In the new provisions, GST on 17 items has been raised from 28% to 40%, and on 19 items from 12% to 18%. Even today, more than 35 agricultural products fall under GST. Thus, the claim of having only two slabs is false.
Shahid Bhai said that BJP leaders should visit cloth or stationery traders and ask them about GST—then they will understand the reality on the ground. The BJP government is deceiving and misleading the common people through lies and fraud.
