“Children are the future of the nation — the lamps of hope and dreams,” said officials at a vibrant showcase of progress in early childhood education at model Anganwadi Centres in Rajnandgaon. The district’s rural Anganwadi Centres are being transformed into joyful, educational spaces that resemble modern play schools and pre-nursery classes.
At Sashakt Anganwadi Centre No. 1 and No. 3 in Bhothipar Khurd, and Centre No. 3 in Singhola, children are being introduced to letters, rhymes, and interactive learning through playful methods. With walls adorned with colorful educational paintings, and a dedicated birthday calendar to mark and celebrate each child’s special day, these centres are nurturing curiosity and creativity among toddlers. Rhymes like “Aloo Kachalu Beta Kahan Gaye The…” are now memorized and joyfully recited by the children.

The centres are not only focused on education but also on community awareness. Messages such as “Boys and Girls Are Equal” and “A Healthy Weight Reflects a Healthy Child” are prominently displayed to raise awareness among families. The centres also educate expectant mothers on pregnancy care and provide nutritious meals as part of state-run health and nutrition programs.
According to Women and Child Development Officer Mrs. Gurupreet Kaur, several government schemes are actively being implemented across the district, including the Chief Minister’s Child Reference Scheme, Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana, Mahatari Vandana Yojana, Noni Suraksha Yojana, and Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana. Children receive balanced hot meals, while pregnant women are also served freshly cooked food at the centres. Adolescent girls are being sensitized about health and hygiene.
Cleanliness and safety remain top priorities. The kitchen and store rooms are regularly cleaned and maintained. Play areas are well-equipped, ensuring children remain active and engaged.

Special appreciation was given to the efforts of Anganwadi workers like Mrs. Godawari Sahu and Mrs. Poonam Yadav, who, along with their assistants, are helping create nurturing and inspiring environments for the children. The presence of enthusiastic children in large numbers at these centres is a testament to the growing trust of rural communities in Anganwadi services.
Rajnandgaon’s Anganwadi Centres are emerging as pillars of holistic development—where learning begins with a smile.
