The Chhattisgarh State Power Distribution Company (CSPDCL) is conducting a district-wide awareness campaign under the ongoing Smart Meter Fortnight, aimed at educating electricity consumers about the benefits and features of smart meters. The campaign is being implemented across all distribution centres to promote modern, transparent and efficient electricity services.
As part of the initiative, a programme was organised at the Electricity Office in Arjuni village, where field officers informed consumers about the functioning of smart meters, accurate billing systems, real-time consumption monitoring and the importance of energy conservation.
Officials demonstrated how consumers can monitor their electricity usage directly on their mobile phones, enabling them to track consumption patterns and adopt energy-saving measures accordingly. The programme also included an interactive session where consumer queries were addressed, encouraging efficient and responsible electricity usage.

Notably, the Ministry of Power, Government of India, has directed the observance of Smart Meter Fortnight from February 9 to February 23, 2026, across the country. The campaign is being implemented under the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS), which aims to provide better and more transparent electricity services to consumers while strengthening the financial health of distribution companies.
The primary objective of the Smart Meter Fortnight is to build awareness, trust and acceptance among consumers regarding smart meter technology. During the campaign, consumers were informed about the benefits of prepaid smart meters, which include:
- Advance payment facility
- Real-time balance information
- Better control over electricity consumption
- Accurate and transparent billing
- Reduction in billing disputes
- Alerts for low balance and abnormal consumption
- Easy recharge options
- Improved service quality
Officials stated that smart meters will not only empower consumers with better control over their electricity usage but also contribute to overall efficiency in power distribution and energy management.
