In view of the upcoming Raksha Bandhan festival, the Food and Drug Administration is conducting a seven-day intensive food safety enforcement and public awareness campaign in the district from August 17 to August 23, 2026, under ‘Bane Khabbo-Bane Rahibo 2.0’.

The campaign aims to ensure the availability of safe, quality and standard food products to citizens and to effectively control the manufacture and sale of adulterated, substandard, misbranded, misleadingly presented and unsafe food products.

During the campaign, risk-based inspections of food business establishments, testing of food products, collection of samples wherever required, tracing of the food supply chain and source, and statutory action in cases of violations are being undertaken in accordance with the prescribed rules.

Special Monitoring of Dairy Analogues and Misleadingly Presented Food Products

The State Government has imposed an immediate ban on the manufacture, processing, storage, transportation, distribution and sale of non-standardised dairy analogues or non-dairy food products resembling dairy products that create the impression of being genuine dairy products among consumers.

Products in which vegetable fat, vegetable oil or other non-dairy ingredients are used in place of milk, or whose labelling, packaging, display or manner of sale misleads consumers, will remain under special scrutiny during the campaign.

Particular attention will be given to materials being sold or used in the name of mawa, khoya, paneer, milk, ghee, cream, butter and cheese. Their actual nature, ingredients used, names and presentation will be examined.

If a product is presented as a genuine dairy sweet but is found to contain vegetable oil, vegetable fat or other non-dairy ingredients instead of milk and dairy components, necessary statutory action will be taken in accordance with its category, labelling and applicable regulatory provisions.

Sweets Sold Without Labels or Under Misleading Names to Be Inspected

Special attention will be given to sweets sold without proper labels, ingredient details or under misleading names and presentations during the campaign.

Cases in which low-cost or substandard sweets are prepared, packed or sold under the name of another famous and genuine sweet will also be investigated.

If sweets stored in bulk containers do not carry information regarding their name, ingredients or necessary identification, the manufacturer, source and establishments supplying them for retail sale will also be investigated.

Entire Supply Chain to Be Examined, Not Just Retailers

An important focus of the campaign will be source tracing of suspected food products.

If suspicious sweets are found in rural or small markets, action will not be limited to the concerned retailer. Based on available bills, supplier details and other records, efforts will be made to trace the concerned manufacturer, wholesaler and distributor.

In wholesale markets, special attention will be given to purchase and sale bills and invoices, supplier details, information about the concerned customer or destination, unlabeled sweet containers and the source of suspicious sweets.

Hotels, Restaurants, Dhabas and Street Food Establishments Under Scrutiny

During the campaign, butter, cream, cheese, paneer and other ingredients being used at hotels, restaurants, dhabas and street food establishments will also be inspected.

If suspicious non-dairy food products resembling dairy products are found, information regarding their suppliers and sources will be obtained, followed by sample collection and statutory action wherever necessary.

Intensive Action in Both Rural and Urban Areas

Under the campaign, inspections will be conducted not only in urban wholesale food and sweet markets but also at sweet shops in rural areas, small confectionery businesses, temporary and seasonal sweet vendors, local distributors, weekly markets and haats, and among traders temporarily engaged in food businesses during the festival.

Temporary food businesses operating without the required food registration or licence will also be inspected.

The cleanliness of manufacturing premises, the quality and source of raw materials, including mawa, khoya, paneer, milk, ghee and oil, as well as the actual nature of prepared food products, will be examined.

Sample Collection and Statutory Action

During inspections, if adulteration, substandard quality, misbranding or information and presentation intended to mislead consumers are found in any food product, samples will be collected as per the prescribed procedure and sent to a laboratory for testing.

Based on the available facts and investigation findings, necessary statutory action will be taken under the provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, and the rules, regulations, applicable orders and notifications framed under it.

Where necessary, lawful action including stopping the concerned food product, its removal, seizure, sample collection and other measures will also be undertaken.

Appeal to Food Business Operators

The Food and Drug Administration, Rajnandgaon, has appealed to all food business operators in the district to strictly comply with food safety standards, use quality raw materials in the manufacture and sale of food products, obtain the required food licences and registrations, comply with prescribed labelling and ingredient details, and avoid names, claims or presentations that may mislead consumers.

Food business operators have also been advised to ensure the availability of proper bills and source-related records for food materials purchased by them, so that the food supply chain can be verified whenever required.

Citizens Urged to Cooperate

The Food and Drug Administration, Rajnandgaon, has appealed to citizens to pay attention to the quality, packaging and labelling information while purchasing sweets and other food products.

Citizens have also been urged to provide information to the department regarding highly suspicious, unlabeled or misleadingly named food products and cooperate in strengthening the food safety system.
