District President of the Indian National Congress, Vipin Yadav, has sharply criticised the state government’s recently presented budget, stating that while it appears large in size and announcements, it falls short in addressing the real challenges faced by common citizens.
In a statement issued in Rajnandgaon, Yadav said that people struggling with inflation, unemployment, and income insecurity find little assurance in the financial roadmap. He expressed concern over the estimated fiscal deficit of around three percent and the continuously rising debt burden, warning that increasing interest liabilities could strain the economy of Chhattisgarh in the coming years. According to him, the absence of a clear framework for financial discipline and income-expenditure balance makes the trend worrisome.
Highlighting the agricultural sector, he said that despite repeated claims of doubling farmers’ income, the budget does not present a clear long-term strategy to reduce production costs, ensure remunerative prices, expand irrigation, or promote agro-based industries. In an agrarian state, he noted, development claims would remain hollow unless farmers witness real income growth.
Yadav also pointed out that the middle class and youth — considered the backbone of the state’s economic structure — have not received adequate attention. With rising education and healthcare expenses, he said, the middle class expected relief measures, but the budget lacks a concrete roadmap. Regarding employment, he questioned how many new government jobs would be created, which departments would see recruitment, and within what timeline the hiring process would be completed. “Employment does not come from announcements alone; it requires post creation and a transparent recruitment calendar,” he remarked.

On the healthcare front, he alleged that there is no major allocation clearly visible for improving facilities in medical colleges, including adequate staffing and modern equipment. He further stated that Rajnandgaon district itself did not receive the priority it deserved. He cited allocations of ₹20 lakh for a 4-km road from Ambedkar Chowk to Nava Gaon and ₹48 lakh for a 3.60-km road and bridge works from the Medical College to Sukuldaihan, calling the amounts insufficient for quality infrastructure development.
The Congress leader also raised concerns about implementation efficiency, noting that in the previous financial year several departments reportedly failed to utilise nearly 20 percent of their allocated funds. In such a scenario, he said, the credibility of new announcements naturally comes under question. He also referred to the long-discussed metro project, stating that despite repeated mentions over the years, visible progress on the ground remains unclear.
Concluding his remarks, Yadav said that the people of Chhattisgarh want results, not publicity; economic stability, not statistical glamour; and sustainable financial management instead of development driven by debt. Otherwise, he warned, the budget could become a document reflecting financial pressure rather than progress in the future.
