In a significant push for transparency and accountability under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGA), the Rajnandgaon district administration has introduced special QR codes for all gram panchayats.
Guided by District Collector Dr. Sarveshwar Narendra Bhure, these QR codes are being installed at panchayat offices and key public locations across the district. By simply scanning the code with their mobile phones, villagers will be able to access complete details of all MGNREGA-approved and completed works from the past three years.

This digital initiative ensures that MGNREGA projects become fully transparent, accessible, and accountable to citizens. The data available through QR codes will include:
- List of sanctioned works under MGNREGA in the last three years
- Ongoing and completed projects
- Total expenditure incurred
- Number of man-days generated
- Number of active workers engaged
Speaking on the initiative, District Panchayat CEO Suruchi Singh said that the QR code system empowers villagers with the right to directly monitor MGNREGA projects in their villages. “Now villagers themselves can verify which works have been sanctioned, how much progress has been made, and how much payment has been released. This will not only strengthen transparency but also ensure timely benefits of the scheme reach the people,” she added.

The initiative aligns with the State and Central Government’s policies of good governance and digital accountability, ensuring real-time citizen access to information. By giving villagers a direct oversight mechanism, the district administration aims to create a participatory model of rural development where citizens remain informed and involved.
Officials believe the move will also curb irregularities and corruption, as locals can immediately identify discrepancies in reported work and actual progress. With QR-enabled transparency, Rajnandgaon is emerging as a model district in leveraging digital tools for rural governance.
