Renowned pediatrician and social reformer Padma Shri Dr. Pukhraj Bafna has been conferred with Lions International’s highest honor — the Ambassador of Goodwill Award. The award was presented during the Provincial Oath Ceremony of Lions International held in Raipur last week, in a packed auditorium where International Director Lion Pankaj Mehta, representing International President Fabrício Oliveira, bestowed the distinction upon Dr. Bafna.

For more than five decades, Dr. Bafna has been at the forefront of both medical service and community welfare. His life, marked by simplicity, compassion, and an unwavering spirit of humanity, has earned him a revered place among the people of Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh.

As Patron and Mentor of Udayachal, one of the region’s leading charitable organizations, Dr. Bafna has played a pioneering role in expanding community health services. Notably, his leadership at the Udayachal Eye Hospital has spanned nearly 50 years, where his vision, managerial excellence, and humanitarian commitment have left an indelible mark.

The ceremony witnessed the presence of several distinguished personalities including Lion Vinod Verma from Nagpur, Lion Sharad Mehta from Indore, Lion Johar from Bhopal, Lion Vijay Agrawal — Governor of Lions Club for MP & Chhattisgarh, alongside former governors, dignitaries, family members, and a large gathering of citizens. The audience greeted the announcement with resounding applause, celebrating Dr. Bafna’s global recognition with joy and pride.

This international honor, observers note, is not only a personal milestone for Dr. Bafna but also a matter of collective pride and inspiration for the entire region.
