To ensure effective cleanliness and sanitation in the city, Mayor Shri Madhusudan Yadav and Municipal Commissioner Shri Atul Vishwakarma are continuously visiting various wards and reviewing on-ground cleanliness arrangements. As part of the inspection drive, both officials visited Ganj Chowk, Balaji Mandir area, Hat Bazaar, the area near Udayachal, and the Mohara Mela ground on Tuesday morning. The Health Officer was instructed to improve the quality of sanitation services in these locations.
During the inspection of Hat Bazaar, Mayor Shri Yadav said that a large number of citizens visit the market regularly to buy vegetables and essential items. Due to vegetable stacking and public movement, waste tends to accumulate. He directed that regular cleaning should be ensured and vegetable vendors should also be encouraged to maintain cleanliness around their selling area and dispose of waste in municipal collection vehicles. He further instructed that areas around Balaji Mandir, Ganj Chowk, and Udayachal must be cleaned regularly.

Highlighting the upcoming local festivities, he said that with Chhoti Diwali and Rajyotsav approaching, the city’s cleanliness arrangements must be further strengthened. Considering the scheduled arrival of VIP guests, he directed that the State School ground, surrounding areas, GE Road, and the Assembly Speaker’s residence area be cleaned daily.
Municipal Commissioner Shri Vishwakarma instructed that the public toilets in Hat Bazaar be cleaned daily and adequate water and maintenance facilities be ensured. He also directed the cleanliness teams to regularly remove waste from the Mukkad dumping point and ensure sweeping along Mohara Road, road dividers, and the mela ground. He emphasized taking action under Malma Mandap rules against those who dump construction material or debris on roads and public places. He added that encroachments must be removed after issuing necessary warnings and fines should be imposed for non-compliance.

He also directed Executive Engineer Shri Pranay Meshram to complete the pending works at the Mohara Mela ground at the earliest. The inspection team included Councillor Jainam Baid, senior journalist Vinay Chopra, and the technical and health department staff of the Municipal Corporation.
It is noteworthy that the Hon’ble Vice President of India is scheduled to visit Rajnandgaon on November 5 for the inauguration of the ultra-modern Eye Hospital at Udayachal. However, the surrounding area has recently been affected by scattered garbage, primarily because many residents have been dumping household waste there after Diwali. Additionally, the Municipal Corporation has been facing a shortage of sanitation workers, and outsourced sanitation staff are reportedly unpaid for the last few months. Meanwhile, Commissioner Atul Vishwakarma’s proactive approach toward improving the cleanliness system has become a topic of public discussion in the city.
