The death of top Maoist commander Madavi (Malvi) Hidma has triggered major turbulence within the Communist Party of India (Maoist). The Maoist Central Committee has issued a press note—now circulating widely through social media platforms—alleging that Hidma was killed in a “fake encounter” and declaring November 23 as a nationwide ‘Resistance Day’.
The announcement, made by Maoist spokesperson Abhay, accuses security forces of staging the encounter and calls upon their cadre across India to observe large-scale protests.
Maoist Allegation: Hidma Was Captured Alive, Later Killed
According to the press note, Hidma was allegedly taken into custody while traveling for medical treatment and later executed. The Maoists claim:
Hidma was detained near Vijayawada under the pretext of medical assistance.
He and several associates were allegedly kept in illegal custody.
His body was later placed at a forest location and the incident declared an encounter.
The Maoist statement insists this killing is part of a “larger state operation” aimed at systematically dismantling their top leadership.
Announcement of Nationwide ‘Resistance Day’
The central committee’s statement appeals to all Maoist divisions, sympathizers, and mass fronts to observe 23 November as ‘Pratirodh Diwas’ (Resistance Day) across India.
The press note refers to:
Protests against alleged fake encounters
Mobilisation against what they termed “anti-tribal and anti-democratic policies”
A call for intensified resistance in all Red-Corridor regions
Security analysts believe the call aims to consolidate demoralised Maoist units following the loss of Hidma, considered one of their most influential strategists.
Security Forces Reject Claims, Maintain Encounter Was Genuine
Security agencies have strongly denied Maoist accusations, stating that the encounter was based on credible and verified intelligence inputs.
Key official points include:
The encounter took place at the Chhattisgarh–Telangana–Maharashtra trijunction, a high-risk Maoist zone.
Along with Hidma, six Maoists were reported killed.
Forces claim Hidma was directly involved in massacres, IED attacks, and at least a dozen major assaults on police and CRPF units.

Police sources argue that Maoists are using the “fake encounter narrative” to regain sympathy, especially after several high-profile surrenders in Bastar over recent months.
Nationwide Alert Issued Ahead of November 23
Following the Maoist announcement, police and central paramilitary forces have increased security across several states:
Chhattisgarh, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Odisha, Jharkhand placed on enhanced alert
Additional road-opening parties deployed
Camps and patrol units instructed to adopt maximum precaution
Intelligence monitoring of communication channels intensified
Officials fear attempts at IED blasts, road blockades, or targeted attacks during the “Resistance Day” period.
Why Hidma’s Death is Significant
Hidma was not an ordinary cadre. He was:
Member of the People’s Liberation Guerrilla Army (PLGA) Battalion-1, one of the most feared Maoist units
A central strategist behind ambushes in Dantewada, Sukma, Bijapur
Considered the backbone of Maoist operations in South Bastar
His elimination is seen as the biggest operational breakthrough in years, leading to panic and organisational disarray within the Maoist hierarchy.
Political and National Security Implications
The Maoist call for a nationwide campaign elevates the incident beyond a local or regional conflict. Several observers note:
It is an attempt to revive Maoist ideological mobilisation.
The announcement may signal the beginning of a retaliatory phase.
The issue is likely to draw national political attention given ongoing anti-Naxal operations and the government’s push for complete eradication.
Conclusion
Whether the Maoist allegations hold ground or not, the announcement of a nationwide “Resistance Day” has placed security agencies on high alert. As the situation unfolds, both the government and the Maoist leadership appear bracing for a new phase in India’s long-running left-wing insurgency.
