Accused Nabbed at Mobile Check Post Following Tip-Off; Contraband and Vehicle Worth ₹40,000 Confiscated Under NDPS Act

In a significant crackdown on illegal narcotics trafficking, Surgi police in Rajnandgaon district arrested a man allegedly transporting cannabis in a rural area and seized 1.86 kilograms of ganja along with a scooter used in the crime. The total value of the confiscated items has been estimated at approximately ₹40,000.
The operation was conducted under the direction of Superintendent of Police Ankita Sharma, with guidance from Additional Superintendent of Police Kirtan Rathore and City Superintendent of Police Vaishali Jain. The action was led on the ground by Station House Officer Inspector Dhal Singh Sahu.
Tip-Off Leads to Interception
Police officials said that on February 20, 2026, they received confidential information that a suspect identified as Mukesh Verma, a resident of Kohka in Bhilai under Durg district, was transporting illegal cannabis from Bharregaon towards Surgi on a scooter. Acting swiftly, officers set up a Mobile Check Post (MCP) outside the Surgi police outpost and began checking suspicious vehicles.
During inspection, a Honda Activa 3G scooter bearing registration number CG07AZ 3065 was stopped. Upon searching the vehicle, police recovered a yellow-green plastic sack containing ganja hidden inside the scooter’s storage compartment.

Contraband and Vehicle Seized
The police seized:
- 1.86 kg of ganja valued at approximately ₹10,000
- Honda Activa 3G scooter valued at approximately ₹30,000
The combined seizure has been estimated at around ₹40,000.
Case Registered Under NDPS Act
A zero FIR was initially registered and later converted into Crime No. 78/2026 at Basantpur Police Station under Section 20(b) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The accused was formally arrested and produced before a court, which remanded him to judicial custody at the District Jail in Rajnandgaon.
Police Team Commended
The successful operation involved the efforts of Sub-Inspector Domar Singh Kanwar and constables Chaman Sahu, Sunil Navratna, Santosh Deshmukh, Komal Sahu, Domendra Sahu, Dilesh Mandavi, and woman constable Meena Sahu.
Police officials reiterated that the district administration will continue its sustained campaign against illegal drug trafficking and warned that strict action will be taken against those involved in the sale and transport of narcotics.
