Industrial Fire at Chemical Plant in Mohandi Brought Under Control, No Casualties Reported

Eight Fire Tenders Rushed from Three Districts After Blaze Erupts in Anthraquinone Powder Storage Unit; Investigation Underway

A major industrial accident followed by a fire broke out on Monday afternoon at a private chemical manufacturing unit located in Mohandi village of Rajnandgaon district. The incident occurred around 12 noon in the anthraquinone powder storage section of M/s Jaya Household Speciality Chemicals Private Limited. Swift action by the district administration and police ensured that the fire was brought under control in time, preventing any loss of life.

According to officials, upon receiving information about the incident, immediate directions were issued by Suruchi Singh, In-charge Collector and Chief Executive Officer of the District Panchayat. Emergency response teams were mobilised promptly, and eight fire tenders were called from Rajnandgaon, Khairagarh-Chhuikhadan-Gandai, and Durg districts to contain the blaze.

Authorities confirmed that despite the intensity of the fire, no casualties or injuries were reported, which officials attributed to timely intervention and coordinated efforts by multiple departments.

Senior police and administrative officers were present at the site to oversee rescue and control operations. These included Additional Superintendent of Police Kirtan Rathore, City Superintendent of Police Vaishali Jain, SDOP Manjulata Baj, Tehsildar Ghumka Mukesh Thakur, Nayab Tehsildar Ramlakhan Chauhan, Station House Officer Ghumka Vijay Mishra, and TI Basantpur Hemant Sahu, along with other members of the district administration and police force.

Officials from the Chhattisgarh Environment Conservation Board also inspected the site. Regional Officer Dr. Anita Sawant and Junior Scientist Shivprasad conducted a preliminary assessment and stated that an investigation into the cause of the fire is currently underway. The exact reason behind the incident has not yet been determined.

Industry representatives, including plant manager K.G. Sharma, were present during the inspection and are cooperating with authorities.

The administration has assured that all necessary safety protocols will be reviewed and that further action will be taken based on the investigation findings.
