In Celebration of Saawan, Women Shine with Grace and Talent at ‘Saawan Sundari’

Cultural Competitions and Traditional Festivities Mark Grand Event Organized by Mahila and Self-Help Groups

The lush green month of Saawan turned even more festive in Rajnandgaon’s Lakholi locality as the ‘Saawan Sundari’ program brought together women from across the area for a day of celebration, tradition, and talent. The event was held under the joint aegis of South BJP Mandal Mahila Group and Nari Kalyan Self-Help Group, Ward 36, and was graced by former MP Abhishek Singh as the chief guest.

Dressed in vibrant traditional attire with full solah shringar, women participated enthusiastically in a variety of cultural competitions, including bindi decoration, recorded dance, traditional costume display, and the central highlight – the Saawan Sundari contest. The atmosphere was further enlivened by the symbolic Saawan swing, a monsoon tradition that added color and nostalgia to the event.

Former MP Abhishek Singh, along with other dignitaries such as South Mandal President Golu Gupta, Ashokaditya Srivastava, Renu Suryavanshi, Geeta Sahu, Councillor Chandrika Sahu, and former Councillor Mithleshvari Vaishnav, appreciated the efforts of the women and distributed prizes to the winners. In his address, Abhishek Singh said, “Women’s participation adds meaning to cultural celebrations. Events like these reflect our traditions and the growing strength of women in society.”

  • Solah Shringar: 1st – Neelam, 2nd – Rani Sahu
  • Traditional Attire: Janaki (Janak Bai) Sahu
  • Bindi Decoration: 1st – Malti Sahu, 2nd – Radha Devangan
  • Recorded Dance: 1st – Rashmi Sahu, 2nd – Damini Sahu

The program concluded with the prize distribution and a special appreciation from the former MP for all participants, whom he described as “the pride of Chhattisgarh.”

The success of the event was credited to the committed efforts of women leaders and members including Rashmi Sahu, Saraswati Sahu, Radhika Sahu, Malti Sahu, Reema Sahu, Neetu Sahu, Dileshwari Yadav, Sukoon Yadav, Rameshwari Yadav, Janaki Bai Sahu, and Divya Sahu, among others from the self-help group.

This festive gathering left a lasting impression, blending cultural pride, women’s empowerment, and the seasonal joy of Saawan into one unforgettable celebration.
