Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly Speaker Dr Raman Singh on Sunday described hockey as a vibrant expression of Rajnandgaon’s sporting consciousness, social participation, and youthful energy, while inaugurating the 5th Chhattisgarh Hockey League All India Hockey Tournament at the Chikhli School Ground in the Patari Paar area of the city.
The prestigious tournament, organised by Rudraksham Welfare Society, will be held from December 21 to December 28, 2025, with teams from various states participating. On the occasion, Dr Singh announced ₹5 lakh for storage of hockey kits and an additional ₹5 lakh for the purchase of gym equipment, aimed at strengthening sports infrastructure for local players.

Addressing players, organisers, and spectators, Dr Singh congratulated Rudraksham Welfare Society for successfully organising the tournament continuously for five years. He said the Chhattisgarh Hockey League has carved out a distinct identity by being increasingly grand, disciplined, and purpose-driven.
“Hockey holds a proud and historic place in Rajnandgaon’s sporting tradition. The soil of this city carries the seed of hockey within it,” Dr Singh remarked. He added that the tournament marked the sowing of that seed, which would soon bear fruit in the form of players representing Rajnandgaon, Chhattisgarh, and the nation at national and international levels.

He noted that the participation of top teams from various states would not only provide spectators with high-quality hockey but also offer valuable learning opportunities for young, aspiring players.
He praised the enthusiasm, discipline, and strength displayed by the players during the march-past and extended his best wishes to all teams. Dr Singh also administered an oath to the players, urging them to uphold sportsmanship throughout the tournament.
