The Health Department has intensified efforts to prevent the spread of filariasis by conducting a Mass Drug Administration (MDA) campaign across Rajnandgaon district. The initiative aims to break the transmission cycle of the disease and ensure complete community participation through supervised medicine consumption.
Chief Medical and Health Officer Dr. N. R. Navratna personally visited communities to raise awareness about the risks associated with filariasis and administered preventive medicines to citizens. The campaign focuses on educating people about the importance of taking prescribed medication even if they are not currently showing symptoms, as the disease can remain dormant for years.
District Programme Manager Sandeep Tamrakar stated that extensive efforts are being made to motivate residents to consume MDA medicines so that awareness increases across society and all eligible beneficiaries can be covered. “Our objective is to achieve 100 percent drug consumption to ensure the success of the campaign and effectively stop the transmission chain of filariasis,” he said.

Night Outreach to Cover All Beneficiaries
Officials informed that medicine distribution and supervised consumption activities are also being conducted during evening and night hours to reach people who remain unavailable during the day due to work or other commitments. This strategy is intended to ensure that no eligible individual is left out of the preventive program.
Health authorities emphasized that filariasis is a serious yet preventable disease, and timely consumption of medicines plays a crucial role in eliminating it from the community. By ensuring universal participation in the MDA drive, the department aims to significantly reduce infection risks and protect public health in the district.
The Health Department has appealed to citizens to cooperate with health workers, consume the medicines as advised, and encourage others in their families and neighborhoods to participate in the campaign.
