Welcoming the latest Goods and Services Tax (GST) reforms announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi ahead of Diwali, Chhattisgarh Assembly Speaker and senior BJP leader Dr. Raman Singh said the decision would provide direct relief to women, middle-class families, and ordinary consumers.
Speaking to the media during his visit to Rajnandgaon on Wednesday, Dr. Singh described the move as “historic,” noting that the Modi government has consistently worked towards simplifying and making India’s tax system more transparent.

He highlighted that the abolition of the 28% and 12% GST slabs will have a far-reaching impact on households and small businesses. “This reform will ease the burden of inflation on women and middle-class families. Everyday essential items will now be available at more affordable prices, directly benefiting consumers,” Dr. Singh stated.
Applauding the Prime Minister’s vision, Dr. Singh said the decision reflects a long-term strategy to strengthen the economy by boosting demand. He added that the timing of the reform, just ahead of the festive season, would not only enhance consumer sentiment but also create a positive environment in the marketplace.
“This is not just tax reform, it is a reform of trust between the government and the people,” he remarked, stressing that the move will invigorate markets and contribute to a more robust economic atmosphere during the festival period.
