Acting on the directions of District Collector Jitendra Yadav, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Department conducted surprise inspections at food establishments across Dongargarh and Dongargaon blocks of Rajnandgaon district in view of the upcoming Holi festival. The inspection drive was carried out with the support of a mobile food testing laboratory to ensure the availability of safe and quality food products for consumers during the festive season.
During the inspections, officials collected a total of 125 samples of various food items, including sweets, ghee, paneer, namkeen, flour, refined flour (maida), gram flour (besan), semolina (suji), and bakery products. On-the-spot testing through the mobile laboratory revealed that 118 samples met prescribed quality standards, while five samples were found substandard.

The inspection team also collected samples based on suspicion from specific establishments, including ghee, paneer, and khari from Ashish Dairy and Daily Needs in Dongargarh, as well as milk katli and namkeen from Jain Sweets in Tumdibod. These samples have been sent to a state food testing laboratory for detailed analysis. Officials stated that if any sample is found substandard, misbranded, or unsafe, strict action will be taken against the concerned food business operators under the provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India Act, 2006, and the case will be presented before the competent court.
Authorities said that continuous inspections are being conducted to ensure that citizens receive safe and hygienic food products. Food business operators have been urged to maintain proper quality standards in manufacturing, storage, display, and sale of food items.

The department has also issued an advisory to citizens, urging them to purchase food products only from registered and reliable shops, especially during the festive season. Consumers are advised to always obtain a proper bill or receipt while purchasing food items, as it is essential for lodging complaints if required.
Officials cautioned against buying excessively bright or deeply colored sweets, which may contain non-permitted artificial colors, and recommended choosing products made with natural coloring agents. Consumers have also been advised to check manufacturing date, expiry date, and FSSAI license number on packaged food items before purchase, and to avoid buying food from establishments lacking proper hygiene.
Citizens can report suspected cases of adulterated or unsafe food products to the Food Safety Department helpline number 9340597097 for prompt action.
