Excise Department Seizes Premium Liquor Worth ₹4.5 Lakh in Major Crackdown in Rajnandgaon

Over 403 Bulk Litres of Maharashtra-Made Beer and Foreign Whisky Confiscated; Accused Arrested Under Excise Act

In a major crackdown on illegal liquor trade, the Excise Department of Rajnandgaon has seized Maharashtra-made premium beer and foreign whisky worth nearly ₹4.5 lakh. The action was carried out on the instructions of District Collector and District Magistrate Jitendra Yadav, as part of an ongoing campaign against illicit liquor sales in the district.

According to Acting Assistant Excise Commissioner Abhishek Tiwari, the raid was conducted at Neelgiri Park, Rajnandgaon, where the team recovered a huge stockpile of high-end liquor from the possession of Jitendra Sahu, a resident of Alikhuta, Tumdibod police station area. The seized items include 683 cans of Maharashtra-made beer, 69 bottles, 64 halves, and 27 quarter bottles of foreign whisky, totalling 403.735 bulk litres.

The estimated market value of the confiscated liquor is around ₹4.5 lakh. A case has been registered under various sections of the Excise Act, and the accused has been arrested. Further legal action is underway.

The operation was conducted under the supervision of Assistant District Excise Officer Kusumlata Jholhe, Excise Sub-Inspector Anil Singh, and primary constables Deepak Gupta, Omprakash Sinha, and Aryan Thakur.

Tiwari stated that the seized liquor was not limited to low-cost brands but also included premium labels such as Red Label, Black Label, Bulldog, Budweiser, and other high-value products. He added that the department acted on specific intelligence inputs, leading to the successful raid.

The Excise Department has intensified surveillance on illegal liquor activities across the district. Regular inspections are being conducted at hotels, roadside eateries, and licensed liquor shops to prevent unauthorized sales. All circle officers have been instructed to maintain strict vigilance and take firm action against violators.
