As India gears up to celebrate Diwali 2025, one question has left many devotees uncertain — should the Festival of Lights be observed on October 20 or October 21? The confusion arises due to the overlap of the Kartik Amavasya Tithi, which traditionally marks the day for Lakshmi-Ganesh Puja and Diwali festivities.

According to the Hindu Panchang, Kartik Amavasya begins on October 20 at 3:44 PM and ends on October 21 at 5:55 PM. After careful astrological analysis, experts confirm that October 20 is the most auspicious day to perform Diwali rituals, as the Amavasya phase coincides with the Pradosh Kaal, considered the ideal time for Lakshmi and Ganesh Puja.

Diwali 2025: Experts Confirm October 20 as the Auspicious Day for Lakshmi-Ganesh Puja Astrological advice

Astrologers explain that while Amavasya extends into October 21, the tithi’s overlap with Pratipada beyond three and a half Prahar makes it less favorable for the main Diwali worship. Hence, devotees are advised to observe the festival on Sunday, October 20, 2025, for maximum spiritual and astrological benefit.

Diwali 2025 Lakshmi–Ganesh Puja Muhurat

  • Pradosh Kaal: 5:46 PM – 8:18 PM
  • Special Muhurat for Lakshmi Puja: 7:08 PM – 8:18 PM

During this sacred window, devotees should worship Goddess Lakshmi, the harbinger of wealth and prosperity, and Lord Ganesh, the remover of obstacles. Performing the puja with devotion during these hours is believed to invite abundance, peace, and happiness into the home.

How to Perform Diwali Puja

  1. Prepare a small platform (chowki) in the East or Ishan (northeast) corner of your home.
  2. Cover it with a red or pink cloth, and place Lord Ganesh’s idol first, followed by Goddess Lakshmi on the right.
  3. Sprinkle water around the area and take a sankalp (prayerful resolve) to perform the ritual.
  4. Light a single-wick ghee lamp, offer flowers, sweets, and chant Ganesh and Lakshmi mantras.
  5. Perform Aarti, blow the conch, and then light five additional lamps before placing diyas throughout your home, temples, and near water sources.
  6. Dress in bright colors like red, yellow, or golden — and avoid darker shades such as black, brown, or blue.

Diwali marks the return of Lord Ram to Ayodhya after his 14-year exile and the victory of good over evil. The lighting of lamps symbolizes the triumph of light over darkness and the renewal of hope and prosperity.

This year, astrologers emphasize that October 20 holds the most auspicious planetary alignment for Lakshmi-Ganesh Puja. By following the correct rituals and muhurat, devotees can invite abundance, happiness, and success into their homes, making Diwali 2025 a truly radiant celebration.
