In a significant boost to aviation infrastructure, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai officially inaugurated the regular operations of the newly constructed State Hangar at Swami Vivekananda Airport, located near Mana Camp in Raipur on Monday. Marking the occasion with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, the Chief Minister became the first dignitary to use the facility, departing from the same hangar for his official visit to Gujarat aboard a special aircraft. The launch of the State Hangar is set to revolutionize VVIP travel protocols in the state.

From now on, all Very Very Important Persons (VVIPs) arriving or departing via chartered or state aircraft will utilize this dedicated facility, making the entire process smoother, faster, and more secure. One of the biggest advantages of this development is the complete elimination of disruptions faced by common passengers. Previously, whenever a VVIP movement took place through the main passenger terminal, it led to temporary halts in regular operations, long waiting times, and inconvenience for thousands of everyday flyers.
With the State Hangar now operational, these issues will become a thing of the past as VVIP movements will be completely segregated from civilian traffic.Speaking on the occasion, CM Vishnu Deo Sai emphasized that the new hangar reflects the state government’s commitment to world-class infrastructure and citizen-centric governance. “This facility not only enhances protocol arrangements for dignitaries but, more importantly, ensures that ordinary passengers face no delays or discomfort. It is a win-win for security, efficiency, and public convenience,” he stated.
The state-of-the-art hangar is equipped with modern amenities, including exclusive lounges, dedicated security checkpoints, and direct apron access, ensuring VIPs can board or deplane without stepping into the main terminal building. The facility has been designed keeping in mind both domestic and international protocol standards, making Chhattisgarh better prepared to host high-profile national and global leaders.

Airport authorities have confirmed that the hangar will be exclusively used for state government aircraft, official delegations, and visiting dignitaries, thereby streamlining operations at one of Central India’s busiest airports. The move is also expected to reduce overall turnaround time for special flights and improve coordination between civil aviation and security agencies.
Travelers at Swami Vivekananda Airport have already started noticing the difference. “Earlier, whenever any minister or governor arrived, we used to get stuck for 30-40 minutes. Hopefully, those days are over,” shared a frequent flyer at the terminal. With this inauguration, Chhattisgarh joins a select list of states that operate dedicated state hangars, placing Raipur airport on par with major hubs like Delhi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru in terms of VVIP handling capabilities.

As Chief Minister Sai took off for Gujarat—the first official journey from the new hangar—the moment symbolized not just infrastructural progress but also the state’s growing stature on the national stage. Officials say more such passenger-friendly initiatives are in the pipeline as Chhattisgarh continues its rapid development trajectory.
The State Hangar is now fully operational, and the skies over Raipur just got a lot smoother—for everyone.
