The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) commemorated the 125th birth anniversary of Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee, founder of the Bharatiya Jana Sangh, with memorial programmes and seminars across all 16 organisational mandals of Rajnandgaon district. Party workers paid tributes to the nationalist leader during events held throughout the district.
The main programme, organised at the BJP district office, was addressed by BJP State General Secretary Yashwant Jain as the keynote speaker.
Addressing the gathering, Mr. Jain said Dr. Mookerjee’s ideology of nationalism, cultural pride and national unity laid the foundation for India’s emergence as one of the world’s leading powers. He said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, several long-standing aspirations associated with Dr. Mookerjee’s vision of India are being realised.
Referring to the abrogation of Article 370, Mr. Jain said the decision fulfilled one of Dr. Mookerjee’s unfinished commitments. He described Dr. Mookerjee’s life as a symbol of dedication, sacrifice and courage in the service of the nation, urging party workers to draw inspiration from his legacy.

During the programme, BJP District President Komal Singh Rajput proposed that Rajnandgaon’s newly constructed bus stand be named “Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee Bus Stand.” He said such a move would serve as a fitting tribute to a leader who made the supreme sacrifice for the nation.
Responding to the proposal, Mayor Madhusudan Yadav expressed his support from the stage and announced that the proposal would be forwarded to the State Government for consideration. He said efforts would be made to secure its approval with the cooperation of Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai and former Chief Minister Dr. Raman Singh.
The Mayor also announced that efforts would be made to install a life-size statue of Dr. Mookerjee within the new bus stand premises so that future generations could draw inspiration from his nationalist ideals and contribution to the country.
Senior BJP leader Khoobchand Parkh spoke in detail about Dr. Mookerjee’s life, political struggle and contribution to nation-building. He said Dr. Mookerjee strongly opposed the separate Constitution, separate flag and separate administrative system in Jammu and Kashmir and remained committed to the principle that there could not be “two constitutions, two flags and two prime ministers in one nation.”
