Rajnandgaon’s Daughter Becomes SSPU’s First PhD Holder, Creating History

A golden chapter has been added to the history of Shri Shankaracharya Professional University (SSPU) as Dr. Reshmi, a faculty member of the Journalism Department at Government Digvijay College, Rajnandgaon, has become the first research scholar to be awarded a PhD degree by the university. With this achievement, she has also earned the distinction of being SSPU’s first woman PhD scholar.

Dr. Reshmi completed her doctoral research in the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication under the supervision of Dr. Sanjeev Kumar, Assistant Professor. Her research topic was “Tourist Destinations of Chhattisgarh and Media: An Analytical Study (With Special Reference to Dainik Bhaskar and Haribhoomi)”. The study critically examined the role of print media in promoting tourism in the state.

On the occasion, Dean, Research Cell Head, and Head of the Mass Communication Department, Dr. Dhanesh Joshi, congratulated Dr. Reshmi and described the achievement as a matter of pride not only for the university but also for the entire academic fraternity.

Present as the external examiner from Indira Gandhi National Tribal University, Dr. Raghavendra Mishra termed the moment historic and said that this day would be etched in golden letters in SSPU’s history, as the university conferred its first-ever PhD degree on Dr. Reshmi.

Expressing gratitude, Dr. Reshmi dedicated her success to her father Shri Dayaram, mother Smt. Kiran, father-in-law Shri Chhabilal, mother-in-law Smt. Geeta, and members of both families. She said the achievement proves that even after marriage, daughters can fulfill their dreams and bring pride to both families.

Husband Calls It a Symbol of Women Empowerment
Her husband, Shri Ravi Sonkar, described the achievement as a living example of women empowerment, stating that Dr. Reshmi’s success would serve as an inspiration for daughters and daughters-in-law across society.
