National Workshop on “Healing Herbs” Begins at Government Digvijay College, Rajnandgaon

Experts Highlight the Role of Medicinal Plants, Ayurveda, and Natural Therapies in Holistic Wellness

A two-day national workshop on “Healing Herbs: A Practical Workshop on Natural Wellness” commenced at Government Digvijay Autonomous Postgraduate College, Rajnandgaon. Organized by the Department of Chemistry, the event is being held on September 1–2, 2025, with the aim of exploring the potential of medicinal plants and natural healing practices for holistic health.

The inauguration ceremony began with the traditional lighting of the lamp, followed by the welcoming of dignitaries with saplings, presented by Mr. Yunus Raza Beg, Head of Department and Co-convener of the workshop. Dr. Dakeshwar Kumar Verma, Convener of the workshop, outlined the program’s objectives, while the proceedings were conducted by Dr. Priyanka Singh.

In her welcome address, Principal Dr. Suchitra Gupta extended heartfelt greetings to all guests, faculty members, and students. She emphasized the importance of such academic initiatives in enhancing the overall development of students and enriching their learning experiences. Her words set an energetic and inspiring tone for the event.

Chief Guest, Dr. Sanjay Tiwari, Vice-Chancellor of Hemchand Yadav University, Durg, spoke on the growing relevance of natural medicine and Ayurveda in modern times. He stressed the need to preserve and promote traditional knowledge systems for future generations.

The keynote address was delivered by Mr. J.A.C.S. Rao (Retd. IFS), Chief Executive Officer of the Chhattisgarh Tribal Local Health Traditions and Medicinal Plants Board, Raipur. Speaking on “Medicinal Plants: Future Prospects for Health and Prosperity,” he highlighted the significance of herbal resources in addressing global health challenges.

The first technical session featured Dr. Deepak Kulshreshtha, Professor, Government Autonomous Ayurveda College, Rewa (M.P.), who delivered a lecture on “Leech Therapy: A Traditional Method for Natural Healing.” This was followed by an engaging talk by Vaidya Ganpat Ram Prabhakar on “Ayurvedic Treatment Approaches for Kidney Disorders.”

The second technical session began with Vaidya Om Prakash Yadav’s presentation on “Traditional Medicine through Ayurvedic Herbs.” Later, Dr. Meghraj Verma (B.E.M.S.) delivered a lecture on “Kitchen Medicine, Ayurveda, and Electrohomeopathy Practices.”

The first day concluded with a panel discussion where experts deliberated on the future possibilities of medicinal plants and natural therapies in healthcare. The session ended with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Ashwini Sharma, acknowledging the contributions of faculty, participants, and invited guests.

The workshop continues on its second day with more sessions aimed at blending traditional wisdom with modern scientific perspectives to promote sustainable wellness.
