In a fiery demonstration against the BJP and the Enforcement Directorate (ED), the City and District Congress Committees of Rajnandgaon jointly organized an effigy-burning protest at Jaistambh Chowk on Saturday. The protest, held under the directives of Chhattisgarh Pradesh Congress Committee (CPCC) President Deepak Baij, aimed to condemn the recent ED actions against former Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel and his family.

Speaking at the protest, City Congress General Secretary Amit Chandravanshi alleged that the ED has been reduced to a “subsidiary organization” of the BJP, acting solely to target political opponents. He termed the recent ED raids on Baghel’s residence and the arrest of his son, Chaitanya Baghel, as acts of political vendetta.

City Congress President Kulbir Singh Chhabra criticized the ruling BJP government for fostering rampant corruption, citing illegal sand mining and liquor trade. “As Congress legislators raise these issues in the state assembly, the BJP is retaliating through the ED. It has turned the ED into its private limited company to harass opposition leaders,” Chhabra claimed.

He further accused the BJP of destroying Chhattisgarh’s natural resources to favor industrial giants, stating, “Former CM Bhupesh Baghel is raising his voice to protect the state’s jal, jungle, and zameen. In retaliation, the government is using ED to silence him and arrest his son. But Congress is not afraid and will continue its fight for justice.”

District Rural Congress President Bhagwat Sahu echoed similar sentiments, asserting that the BJP is misusing central agencies to tarnish Bhupesh Baghel’s image. “The arrest of Chaitanya Baghel is a clear act of political revenge, especially after Congress raised pressing public issues in the assembly,” Sahu said.

A large number of Congress leaders and workers participated in the demonstration, including former Minister Dhanesh Patila, former MLA Channi Sahu, Divisional Spokesperson Kamaljeet Singh Pintu, and former Mayor Hema Deshmukh. Other prominent attendees were Mahendra Yadav, Vibha Sahu, Padam Kothari, Ramesh Dakaliya, Aftab Alam, Mehul Maru, and several others, all of whom joined in slogan-shouting and holding placards denouncing the BJP and ED.

The protest culminated with the burning of effigies of the BJP and the ED amidst chants and slogans calling for an end to “dictatorship politics” and the “misuse of federal agencies.”
