In a bid to tackle water scarcity and promote sustainable water management, Collector Dr. Sarveshwar Narendra Bhure led an extensive inspection drive across several villages in Rajnandgaon as part of ‘Mission Jal Raksha’ and ‘Mor Gaon Mor Pani’ campaigns. The initiative focuses on accelerating groundwater recharge through modern technologies like injection wells, borewell recharge filters, and greywater treatment plants.

During the visit, the Collector assessed percolation tanks and injection wells constructed in village Barga under the Rajnandgaon development block. Emphasizing the need for rapid implementation, he directed officials to install 1,000 injection wells across the district with support from DMF and CSR funds. He highlighted that borewell recharge filters offer a cost-effective method to revive failed borewells and improve the groundwater table.

Dr. Bhure also inspected the solid and liquid waste management unit in Barga, interacting with Swachhata Didis who manage door-to-door garbage collection. The initiative is partly funded through user charges—₹20 from households and ₹50 from shops—making the model semi-self-sustaining. The under-construction greywater treatment plant in the same village aims to purify wastewater from drains before channeling it into village ponds, reducing waterborne diseases and conserving freshwater sources.

In village Tappa (Dongargaon block), Dr. Bhure visited the Udarbanda Tappa reservoir, where local residents requested the site be developed as a tourism destination. He appreciated the community’s interest and discussed its historical relevance.

Later in village Gidhwa (Dongargarh block), the Collector reviewed staggered trenches and percolation tanks, urging authorities to expand water conservation projects across the district. He also inspected homes built under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Gramin, interacting with beneficiaries who confirmed receipt of the first installment and ongoing efforts to complete construction before the monsoon.

CEO of the District Panchayat, Ms. Suruchi Singh, provided updates on housing projects, water conservation structures, and waste management initiatives. The inspection was also attended by officials from the Forest and Water Resources Departments, including DFO Abhishek Agrawal and Executive Engineer Nilesh Ramteke.

This inspection underlines the administration’s commitment to environmental sustainability, grassroots development, and improving rural infrastructure through effective governance and technological intervention.
