Inter-State Cannabis Trafficking Racket Busted in Rajnandgaon; 9.114 Kg Ganja Seized, Three Arrested

Basantpur Police crack down on drug network operating across state borders; accused from Madhya Pradesh sent to judicial custody under NDPS Act

In a major crackdown against illegal narcotics trafficking, Basantpur Police in Rajnandgaon district of Chhattisgarh exposed an inter-state cannabis smuggling racket and arrested three accused persons. Police seized 9.114 kilograms of ganja, estimated to be worth nearly ₹1 lakh in the illegal market.

The operation reflects the district police’s intensified campaign against drug trafficking and other unlawful activities.


Operation Conducted Under Senior Police Supervision

The action was carried out under the direction of अंकिता शर्मा, Superintendent of Police, Rajnandgaon. The drive was supervised by कीर्तन राठौर, Additional Superintendent of Police, and वैशाली जैन, City Superintendent of Police.

District police officials have been running continuous enforcement operations targeting illegal trade and organized criminal activities.


Tip-Off Leads to Swift Police Action

On April 3, 2026, Basantpur Police received confidential information from an informer that three individuals were standing near Mundra Kunj on G.E. Road allegedly intending to sell cannabis.

Acting swiftly on the intelligence input, a police team rushed to the location, conducted a strategic cordon operation, and detained the suspects for questioning.


Three Accused Identified

During interrogation, the detained individuals were identified as:

  • Shiv Kumar Rai (31)
  • Salik Ram (24)
  • Mrs. Pushpa Barman (28)

All three accused are residents of Panna and Jabalpur districts of Madhya Pradesh, indicating an inter-state drug supply connection.


Contraband Seized and Case Registered

Upon searching the bags carried by the suspects, police recovered a total of 9.114 kg of ganja. Following the seizure, Basantpur Police registered a case under Section 20(B) of the NDPS Act.

The accused were formally arrested and later produced before the court, after which they were sent to judicial remand.

The operation was executed under the leadership of एमन साहू, Station House Officer of Basantpur Police Station, along with other members of the police team whose efforts were officially appreciated.


Police Reiterate Zero Tolerance Policy

Rajnandgaon Police stated that strict action against narcotics trafficking will continue in the district. Authorities emphasized their commitment to dismantling drug networks and preventing the spread of illegal substances among youth and local communities.
