The Swadeshi Mela being held at Rajnandgaon’s State High School grounds from January 22 to January 28 has been drawing steadily growing crowds, reflecting strong public support for the initiative promoting indigenous products and self-reliance.
As visitor numbers continue to rise, the organising committee has introduced special traffic and parking arrangements to ensure safety and ease of access for the public. Organisers have appealed to citizens to avoid bringing vehicles directly to the centrally located fairgrounds.
Under the revised system, pedestrians entering through Gate No. 1 near the Khairagarh Overbridge will be allowed access on foot only, with vehicles to be parked at the Municipal Corporation office or Digvijay Club ground. Gate No. 2, opposite the Municipal School on GE Road, has been designated exclusively for two-wheelers and bicycles, which must be parked within the school premises. Visitors arriving by car are advised to use Gate No. 3 near Law College, where parking facilities have been arranged.
The Swadeshi Mela showcases Chhattisgarh’s rich cultural heritage through folk performances while offering a wide range of indigenous products and traditional cuisines at its stalls. Organisers noted that the fair has become a much-awaited annual event, with residents eagerly anticipating it every January and February.
The initiative, aimed at strengthening India’s self-reliance movement, has also encouraged a growing shift toward Swadeshi products in daily life. Attractively decorated pavilions and diverse exhibits have further enhanced the appeal of the fair.
Patriotic Programme on Subhas Jayanti
On January 23, a special patriotic programme was organised on the occasion of Subhas Jayanti. Retired soldiers and former defence officers were felicitated on stage, and floral tributes were paid to Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose in remembrance of his sacrifice for the nation. The venue resonated with patriotic songs, filling the mela with renewed enthusiasm and national pride.
The programme was conducted by Sharad Shrivastava and Vijay Manikpuri. Organising Committee Convenor Vinod Dhadda and Welcome Committee Convenor Yogesh Bagdi highlighted the importance of honouring veterans and inspiring younger generations through such events.
Bharat Mata Aarti Becomes Key Attraction
The daily Bharat Mata Aarti, organised by the Chamber of Commerce to promote local products, has emerged as a major attraction of the Swadeshi Mela. On January 24, municipal councillors participated in the collective aarti, joining voices in devotion and unity.

Chamber of Commerce President Kamlesh Baid welcomed the councillors and appreciated their support in encouraging indigenous trade and cultural values.
Organisers said the combination of cultural programmes, patriotic observances and promotion of local enterprises has transformed the Swadeshi Mela into a vibrant community celebration, strengthening public engagement while advancing the spirit of self-reliance.
