Rajnandgaon Police Seize Illegal Liquor Worth ₹39.53 Lakh in Three-Month Crackdown

127 cases registered, 138 accused booked as police intensify action against liquor smuggling and bootlegging

In a sustained crackdown on the manufacture, transportation and sale of illegal liquor, Rajnandgaon Police have seized contraband liquor and vehicles worth approximately ₹39.53 lakh during a special three-month campaign conducted across the district.

The campaign was launched under the direction of Superintendent of Police Ankita Sharma (IPS) with the objective of curbing liquor smuggling, bootlegging and related criminal activities. Police teams have been conducting continuous raids and surveillance, resulting in large-scale seizures and arrests.

According to official data, police registered 127 cases under Sections 34(1) and 34(2) of the Excise Act, booking 138 accused persons during the period. A total of 1,150.33 bulk litres of illegal liquor, valued at ₹8.88 lakh, was seized. In addition, 43 vehicles, including 41 two-wheelers and two four-wheelers, used for smuggling were confiscated, valued at ₹30.65 lakh.

A significant portion of the seized liquor was smuggled from Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra into Chhattisgarh. Police registered five major inter-state smuggling cases at Tumdibod Police Outpost, Basantpur Police Station, Dongargarh Police Station and Dongargaon Police Station.

In cases involving Madhya Pradesh-manufactured foreign liquor, police registered three cases against eight accused, seizing 464.46 bulk litres of liquor worth ₹5.59 lakh, along with one two-wheeler and two four-wheelers valued at ₹14.80 lakh. One illegal liquor operator/manager from Madhya Pradesh was also arrested.

Similarly, two cases related to Maharashtra-manufactured country liquor were registered against two accused, with 12.96 bulk litres of liquor worth ₹5,760 seized, along with a two-wheeler valued at ₹20,000.

Within the district, police registered 122 cases involving Chhattisgarh-manufactured illegal liquor, booking 128 accused persons. These included 92 cases of country liquor (522.40 bulk litres worth ₹2.34 lakh) and 30 cases of foreign liquor (133.23 bulk litres worth ₹88,540). Additionally, 39 two-wheelers worth ₹15.65 lakh were seized.

Superintendent of Police Ankita Sharma stated that strict action against liquor smugglers is being taken as part of the district’s broader de-addiction and law enforcement strategy. She added that habitual offenders and anti-social elements are under constant police surveillance to ensure peace and law and order.

The police department, in coordination with the Excise Department, has intensified enforcement measures, leading to a visible curb on illegal liquor trafficking across the district.
