Under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana–Gramin (PMAY-G), Rajnandgaon district has received approval for the construction of 40,454 houses over the past two years, aimed at providing permanent, well-equipped homes to families living without shelter or in kutcha houses.

Eligible beneficiaries under the scheme are provided ₹1.20 lakh in financial assistance, along with 90 days of wage support under the MGNREGA, to construct a pucca house with basic amenities. According to district officials, in the financial year 2024–25, a total of 30,766 houses were sanctioned, of which 23,294 houses (75.71 percent) have already been completed, while 7,472 houses are currently under construction.

Similarly, in the financial year 2025–26, 9,688 houses have been sanctioned so far. Out of these, the first instalment has been released to 7,026 beneficiaries, enabling them to begin construction work.

To ensure timely completion and transparency, the district administration has been regularly organising bhoomi pujan ceremonies for newly sanctioned houses and grih pravesh programmes for completed houses in the presence of beneficiaries. As part of innovative initiatives, one-day special drives are being conducted to motivate beneficiaries to start construction of pending houses and complete ongoing projects within the stipulated timeframe.

The district has also made rainwater harvesting measures, including the construction of soak pits, mandatory in sanctioned houses to promote water conservation. Beneficiaries with exemplary houses and those completing construction in a shorter time are being felicitated at district and block levels, encouraging best practices.

In addition, to enhance beneficiaries’ livelihoods and overall living standards, skill development programmes are being organised by the Rural Self Employment Training Centre (RSETI), Barga, to train beneficiaries as skilled workers.
