54,549 Saplings Planted Under “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” Campaign in Rajnandgaon

Social organizations and citizens actively participated in the massive plantation drive

In a major green initiative, the district administration of Rajnandgaon, under the guidance of Collector Dr. Sarveshwar Narendra Bhure, organized a large-scale plantation drive under the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” (One Tree in Mother’s Name) campaign. A total of 54,549 saplings were planted across 407 gram panchayats with the active involvement of educational institutions, NGOs, industries, and social organizations.

District Panchayat CEO Suruchi Singh informed that the campaign, dedicated to greenery and inspired by the spirit of maternal love, witnessed enthusiastic participation from leading institutions such as Udayachal, Gayatri Parivar, Samata Manch, Aastha School for the Deaf, Abhilasha Sansthan, Comedien Villagers Welfare Foundation, Hariyali Bahen Campaign, Maa Bamleshwari Group, Chamber of Commerce, Abis Exports, Hitech Metal Powders, Suntech Geo, Kamal Solvent, Mohan Agro, Jankalyan Sansthan, Sight Savers India, Dipika School, Wesleyan School, Nehru School Singhola, Adarsh Vidya Mandir Lakholi, Srujan Higher Secondary School Surgi, Saraswati Shishu Mandir Patewa, and the International Human Rights Protection Organization, among others.

The plantation drive also carried a festive spirit, as women’s groups planted saplings during Hareli, Raksha Bandhan, and Teej, adding cultural significance to the initiative. Udayachal prepared and distributed 22,000 seed balls, which were spread in trenches constructed across the district. Under the MGNREGA scheme, approval was granted for plantation on 82,888 ropani (plots) along with nursery development.

Fruit-bearing trees such as mango, jackfruit, lemon, and drumstick were planted in grazing lands, while shady trees like karanj were planted along roadsides. Officials highlighted that in the coming years, these plantations will provide fruits, shade, environmental protection, and also strengthen the rural economy.
