Chhattisgarh High Court Grants Divorce Over Wife’s ‘Pet Rat’ Taunts, Citing Mental Cruelty

In a landmark judgment, the Chhattisgarh High Court on September 25, 2025, upheld divorce for a Raipur man after his wife repeatedly mocked him as the “pet rat” of his parents, ruling it as mental cruelty. The court said derogatory taunts and pressure to abandon family amounted to an irretrievable breakdown of marriage, awarding ₹5 lakh alimony and child custody to the wife.
