The Mumbai Crime Branch has arrested 35-year-old Dilip Chaudhary from West Bengal for allegedly threatening Kapil Sharma’s aide, Sunil Khopkar, with a ₹1 crore ransom. Posing as a member of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, Chaudhary made seven intimidating calls and circulated videos invoking notorious gangsters to instill fear. Swift cyber forensics traced him to North 24 Parganas, leading to his arrest on September 26, 2025. While Chaudhary confessed it was a solo act driven by debt, police continue probing for wider links to extortion rackets targeting Bollywood celebrities.
