Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has announced that singing the national song Vande Mataram will now be mandatory in all schools, colleges, and educational institutions across the state. The move, made during a massive ‘Ekta Yatra’ in Gorakhpur, aims to instill patriotism, unity, and cultural pride among students. Marking 150 years of the iconic song that played a pivotal role in India’s freedom struggle, the decision is being seen as a strong step to reinforce national identity and counter divisive tendencies.

India has launched year-long celebrations for the 150th anniversary of Vande Mataram. PM Modi called the national song a mantra of unity and urged promotion of its full rendition. Cultural events and youth programs will continue through 2025-26.
