Congress leader Rishi Shastri has termed the Chhattisgarh Budget 2026–27 anti-people, alleging the absence of a recruitment calendar, inflation relief, and concrete support for farmers, while accusing the government of focusing on publicity over real development.

Criticising the Union Budget presented by the Modi government, Chhattisgarh Pradesh Congress Committee spokesperson Kamaljeet ‘Pintu’ has termed it anti-village, anti-poor, anti-farmer and anti-middle class. He alleged that the budget offers no concrete relief to farmers, unemployed youth or small traders, while shifting welfare burdens to states and prioritising corporate interests.

Chhattisgarh Pradesh Congress Committee General Secretary Shahid Bhai targeted the BJP, alleging that in the last eight years the government has collected ₹127 lakh crore in GST from the poor, farmers, and common people. He said that due to the “Gabbar Singh Tax,” heavy burdens were imposed on agricultural equipment, textiles, stationery, and even religious essentials. Accusing the BJP of misleading the public, he said the government is portraying GST amendments as a festival while crushing the working class and middle-class families.

Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra delivered a sharp and witty response to the BJP’s claim that Rahul Gandhi is a “non-serious” politician. “The BJP’s biggest problem is that Rahul is serious about dismantling their politics of division and distraction,” she remarked. Her sarcastic yet pointed comeback has intensified the political exchange between Congress and the BJP ahead of upcoming state elections.

With India becoming the world’s fourth-largest economy, senior tax expert S.L. Joshi called it a matter of pride but also raised concerns over internal challenges such as inflation, unemployment, and job losses due to artificial intelligence. He urged the government to adopt an “India First” approach and focus on improving the quality of life for its citizens.
