India’s 17th Vice Presidential election witnessed an impressive 96% turnout of MPs, marking a historic contest between NDA nominee and Maharashtra Governor C.P. Radhakrishnan and INDIA bloc’s candidate, former Supreme Court Judge B. Sudershan Reddy. With voting concluded in Parliament House, counting is underway and results are expected later this evening.

Former Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud has strongly endorsed the Uniform Civil Code (UCC), calling it a long-overdue constitutional aspiration that India must now fulfill. Highlighting Article 44 of the Constitution, he emphasized that a unified legal framework is essential for equality and national integration. His remarks, made 75 years after independence, have reignited national debate on the UCC, balancing unity with India’s rich cultural diversity.

The event featured a collective reading of the Constitution’s Preamble and widespread community participation.
